Alexander G. Leon is a Partner in the firm’s Construction Law & Real Estate Groups. Alex’s practice focuses on representing owners, developers, associations, and contractors in the design, construction, development, and restoration of a wide array of projects, including apartments, condominiums, hotels, industrial, commercial/retail and affordable housing. He assists clients with project administration to identify and achieve early resolution of potential disputes. He handles the negotiation and preparation of construction agreements, professional design agreements, and developer agreements. When disputes arise from design and construction agreements, including construction defect and delay claims, surety claims, insurance coverage, construction liens and warranty claims, Alex represents clients in the mediation, arbitration, and litigation of these disputes. Alex has also represented condominium and homeowners’ associations in insurance, construction defect, and contract disputes in State and Federal Courts throughout the State of Florida. Alex is a graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he was the recipient of several merit based scholarships and a member of the Jessup Moot Court team. Alex earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Miami. Alex is also a proud Miami native and fluent in Spanish.

    SELECT EXPERIENCE

    • Defense of $110 Million Stadium Construction Claim Representation of the South Florida Stadium, LLC, an affiliate of the owner of the Miami Dolphins professional football team, in a lawsuit arising out of a $110 million change order submitted for the fabrication and erection of the rooftop shade canopy over the Hard Rock Stadium.

    • $22.5 Million Condominium Community Construction Defects Case Secured a $22.5 million settlement as part of the trial team for the owners of a 676- unit condominium community in a construction defects lawsuit reported as one of the largest in Palm Beach County history. Kolter Homes and more than a dozen other subcontractors settled on the third day of jury selection, following three successive verdicts for the owners in court-conducted mock jury trials.

    • Construction of 100-Room Hotel Representation of The Perry Hotel Key West, in Key West, Florida, a 100-unit hotel with recreational amenities, in the preparation and negotiation of construction-related contracts and resolution of design defect dispute with Architect.

    • Construction of 121-Unit Multi-Condominium Community Representation of Alina Residences in Boca Raton, a multi-condominium community consisting of 3 buildings with 121 residential units and 1 commercial unit over a parking garage podium with square footage in excess of2,800,000 square feet of sellable space, in the negotiation and drafting of its construction-related documents.

    • Construction of 125-Room Hotel Representation of Aloft Hotel, a 125-room hotel with restaurants, banquet halls, and other facilities, in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Construction of 150-Room Hotel Representation of The Canopy Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida, a 150-room hotel with restaurants, banquet halls together with recreational amenities including a fitness center, pool, and parking lot , in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Construction of 160-Unit Affordable Housing Project in Tampa Representation of Bethune at West River, an income-restricted affordable housing project consisting of 160 apartment units and ground floor retail space located in Tampa, Florida, in the negotiation and drafting of its construction-related documents.

    • Construction of 200-Room Hotel Representation of The Canopy Hotel in Tempe, Arizona, a 200-room hotel with restaurants, fitness center, pool, and parking lot, in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Construction of 218-Room Hotel Representation of Flagler Village Tru in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, a 218-room hotel with restaurants, banquet halls, fitness center, pool, and a parking lot, in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Construction of 48-Unit Luxury Condominium Representation of The Residences at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, a 48-unit luxury condominium with an 18,000 square foot concierge club, in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Construction of 96-Room Hotel Representation of Gale Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, consisting of 96 luxury hotel rooms, restaurants, banquet halls, and recreational amenities including a fitness center, pools, cabanas, and a parking garage, in the negotiation and preparation of construction-related contracts.

    • Marlin Stadium Renovation and Expansion Representation of Marlins Stadium in the 2019 renovation, expansion, and remodel of Marlins Park facilities including renovations to The Club: Dex Imaging, Centerfield Zone, and other related amenities.

    • Miami Hotel Owner Wins Against 13 Construction Defendants Successful representation of Miami hotel owner in construction defect litigation against thirteen construction defendants.
